Every trip to the library for kids books results in me bringing home yet another big pile of knitting books. Last lot included Leigh Radford's One Skein. Usually I get a big pile of books out but never actually knit anything out of them. Nice for a browse and some inspiration but that's about it usually.
One Skein was great though, my kind of knits...lots of little things!!
I'd seen Julie's cool Petal Bib a few weeks ago and thought I would give it a try...
Very cute and actually I think it would even be functional too! It's a nice big size and made from cotton for maximum dribble absorbency. I used about half a ball of Peaches and Creme cotton that I got via Leah from the US earlier this year. This one went off to Beck as well (she's got her package now so I'm all Ok for showing the things I made for her).
It's a pity M1 is really past the dribble/smear food everywhere/need a bib for every meal stage otherwise I'd be very tempted to make her one too!
The other pattern from One Skein I'd love to try is the felted bowls (rav link). DH thought they looked a bit silly but I love little boxes and containers, I thought they were so cute. A little bit of leftover Bendigo Rustic 12ply should felt up nicely and make a lovely little home for bits and pieces on my dresser...
Time now for a cup of coffee and a peruse of this week's knitting book haul!

One Skein
I'm thinking of treating myself to a new knitting book for Christmas and would love to hear your recommendations. What's the best knitting book you own?

Your little one is absolutely precious as a model! That is another great knit gift item.
It is hard to recommend a knitting book - I have a fair number but it is such a matter of personal taste. As far as a knitting resource book -I would recommend Knitspeak.
I love the baby hat & baby bolero from One Skein for new little person gifts too.
Favourite knitting book? That's a hard one. I've probably knitted the most out of Last-Minute Knitted Gifts - love it! I also love my 101 One Skein Wonders and am eagerly awaiting the release of the "Luxury" version. I just got the new Mason-Dixon Knitting Outside the Lines...as well as being pee your pants funny there are stunning projects in it too!
I love the baby bolero from On Skein too. You must have a fab library for knitting books - ours (depsite being one of the biggest in the city) seems to have only 80s style books full of fair isle and big baggy jumpers, and three copies of "dogs and the men who knit for them"! Go figure!!
As for best book - I dont have many, and it depends on what you're looking for, but anything by Elizabeth Zimmermann; Zoe Mellor for kids knits, and I second 101 one skein wonders as well worth it.
I really like the petal bib - so very cute!
Well, as for knitting books - so hard to choose!! I really like all of Erika Knight's books (the baby/toddler ones, Baby Bloom, plus Classic and Glamour). Handknit Holidays is a good one for a whole variety of patterns. I guess if you want to design your own, some of the instructional books, like Knitting from the Top Down or the Ann Budd jumper book (can't remember what it's called) would be good. Just so hard to choose!!
I would recommend Holiday Handknits or Weekend Knitting. Both are fun and have lots of great patterns.
Love the bib!! Adorable!
Bib looks great, isn't it a sweet little idea... I made quite a few mistakes on mine, but you can't see them and I don't think that Lola minds too much! X
Such a cutie, doesn't she make a lovely little flower!
My hubby brought my first knitting book, way back when I was learning - "Knitting" by Ros Badger. It's full of great knitting history, techniques and patterns.
Also Claire Garland's "Dream Toys" (another birthday prezzie) is a very yummy book!
Oh I love those felted bowls too! It could be hard to know when to stop though. I think they could be quite addictive!
Wow, I can't keep up with you - I love everything you've been doing! Nice job.
Such a cute bib! I adore it.
My favourite knitting book is EZ's Knitters Almanac. I can't get enough of it. It's my favourite of hers.
But I also love the 25 Favourite Socks from Interweave. I go back to it all the time.
